Scent of Memory
A blending session built on memory. In a room where scents are smelled one after another, the previous one must not still be there.
Overview
In January 2026 Shiseido opened the Shiseido Art & Heritage Passage at Shiseido Beauty Park in Yokohama — a permanent space that walks visitors through 150 years of the company’s work, through all five senses.
One corner of it holds the blending table of memory. Visitors reach for a memory of their own and build a scent out of it. The name says it: this is an experience about how scent and memory are tied together.
A blending session tires the nose fast
Where people compose a scent, they smell one after another. Try one, hesitate, try the next. Again and again.
But if the last scent is still in the air, the next one lands on top of it. By the third or fourth, no one can say what they are smelling any more. It is less that the nose is tired than that the room has gone cloudy.
Aroma Shooter 2, so that nothing is left
So the table uses Aroma Shooter 2. Nothing is sprayed: the scent arrives when it is needed and clears afterwards. One scent does not get in the way of the next.
Smelling each scent cleanly, one at a time — an experience built on memory rests on that plain condition.
