Overview

An air freshener for a car is chosen by its scent. Yet in the shop there is no way to smell one: you cannot open the packaging, and you cannot spray a tester over the shelf. In the end people guess from the name and the colour of the box.

This shelf has a touchscreen standing in front of it. The products appear on it, and when a shopper presses the one they are curious about, its scent comes out beside the screen.

To compare, the last scent has to be gone

Nobody smells just once. They try one, try another, then go back to the first. If the previous scent is still hanging around the shelf, that comparison falls apart — by the second or third, no one can tell what they are smelling.

Two Aroma Shooter 2 units sit beside the monitor. Nothing is sprayed, so nothing accumulates at the shelf: the scent reaches the person who pressed the button, and then it clears. The next scent starts from nothing.

For a product people choose by smell, letting them smell it is the surest promotion there is.
